The Chao Phraya River & Rama VIII Bridge, Bangkok Bicycle Tour, Thailand by David McKelvey

The Chao Phraya is a major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial plain forming the centre of the country. It flows through Bangkok and then into the Gulf of Thailand. The major bridges that cross the Chao Phraya are in the province of Bangkok: the Rama VI rail-road bridge; Phra Pin-klao near the Grand Palace; Rama VIII, a single tower asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge; Rama IX, a semi-symmetric cable-stayed bridge; and Mega Bridge, part of the Industrial Ring Road. In Bangkok, the Chao Phraya is a major transportation artery for a vast network of river buses, cross-river ferries and water taxis, also known as longtails. More than 15 boat lines operate on the rivers and canals of the city, including commuter lines. Source: en.wikipedia.org - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Historic part of Bangkok shows the true heart of this bustling city. By cycling through the back roads and small laneways, you can discover that there is more to this city than traffic-clogged roads and high-rise buildings. While cycling through the quiet 'sois' and lanes that make up much of the city, you will discover ancient temples and life by the Chao Phraya River. We will visit famous places such as the Temple of Dawn with the largest bronze Buddha image in Thailand, but we will also take the time to see how people live their everyday lives. Source: www.velothailand.com
