2020 - Falkland Islands - Christ Church Cathedral by Ted's photos - For Me & You

Christ Church Cathedral, the world's southernmost Anglican cathedral, was built 1890–1892 and consecrated in 1892. Designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield, it's one of the few stone buildings in the Falkland Islands. The church building is one of the smallest Anglican churches in the world and simple by cathedral standards. However it is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Falklands. The church interior is basic; wooden pews, stained glass, and 55 hassocks sewn and designed to represent different aspects of the Falklands by local parishioners. The church graces the nation’s paper money. Sir Arthur Blomfield: Sir Arthur William Blomfield (06 March, 1829 – 30 October 1899) was an English architect. Blomfield became president of the Architectural Association in 1861; a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1867 and vice-president of the RIBA in 1886. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge.
